Our Fine Arts PhD students have been attending workshops in The Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, NY) concerning different glass techniques and in the Pilchuck Glass School.
Two renowned glass artists, Richard Meitner and Michael Taylor, are strongly collaborating with our research unit, being the artistic directors of the masters program and also promoting workshops on glass techniques for Portuguese students.
Other distinguished artists that will collaborate in the Master of Glass Art and Science include Michael Rogers (College of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Rochester Institute of Technology), Jutta Page, Robert Wiley, Paul Marioni, Susanne Frantz and William Gudenrath (Corning Museum of Glass). A prominent Seattle gallerist William Traver will collaborate also with the Research unit.
Glass archaeometry
The University of Antwerp has been collaborating in the provenance studies of Marinha Grande and Coina historical glasses.
From the Corning Museum of Glass we had the collaboration of Stephen Koob, supervising master students in glass conservation, and Dr. Robert H. Brill with useful advices on glass archaeometry.
Marco Veritá from the Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro, Murano, is involved in our research on glass provenance studies.
Glass science
VICARTE started a collaboration with the Penn State University, within a PhD project in corrosion of glazes in ceramics. Professor Carlo Pantano, who is supervising this PhD project, is also a consultant of VICARTE.
Together with Carlo Pantano, David Pye is also collaborating in a funded research project by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT).
David Martlew, a glass technologist, that worked in Pilkington, will also participate in the Master of Glass Art and Science.
