Conservation and restoration of a glass vase from Marinha Grande Museum of Glass.
The Research Unit VICARTE is collaborating with the Department of Conservation and Restoration of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) in the conservation of glass objects of the Marinha Grande Glass Museum.
With the help of one of the artists of VICARTE an innovative technique is being tested: to fill the gaps of a vase with glass fragments obtained by the kiln casting technique. This process is being tested in a large vase of the 20th century with enamel decorations. The glass is a material much more stable than the epoxy resins which are usually used to fill missing parts of the objects; they turn yellow with time and so repeated treatments are needed.
